Moments Campaign Update
Our Senior team did us proud at the European Championships in Dublin,
winning a Bronze medal. This is Scotland’s first success at
this
level, and it means we have qualified for the World Championships in
Indonesia in October 2013.
Our Seniors normally pay all their own expenses when competing abroad
– the Scottish Bridge Union contributes no more than the
entry
fee. But it seems unfair to aks them all to pay the £3000 per
head that travel and hotel bills will cost in Bali.
So we are asking our members to help with fundraising ... more
Members of the teams are running seminars at the GBC and the Carlton.

Attention
All Clubs Who Want New Members!
We are running a session to share ideas on how to help students who
have completed teaching programmes to progress to be club members and
tournament players.
We have been told that this is a major issue for many clubs.
There are several clubs who have been successful in recruiting
significant numbers of new members from their classes. Also
we
will be demonstrating the newest version of the SBU teaching materials.
The Workshop will take place on the afternoon before the AGM, which
will be held at Stirling BC on 28 May. Refreshments will be available
at the end for those wishing to stay for the AGM.
The sessions will be facilitated by Russell Frame and Ann
Wickens. While we'd like the discussions to be as wide-ranging as
possible, our indicative agenda is as attached. Everyone
with an interest in promoting teaching and/or helping students progress
to club tournament play is welcome to attend but please email Russell
in advance at russell.frame45@gmail.com

Membership and Master Point Administration Database (MEMPAD)
Following feedback from Mike Ash's "Your SBU" initiative, as he visited
several clubs over the length and breadth of the country, it was
rapidly confirmed that processing of membership and master point
records in an integrated manner was one of the key areas in which SBU
required to demonstrate improvement. Read more ... |
2012-13 Scottish
Cup
The
2012-13 Scottish Cup is now complete. Paul Barton, Brian Spears, Alan
Goodman and John Murdoch recorded a convincing win against Iain Sime,
Alan Mould, Jim McGeorge and Jack Paterson.
The match was broadcast on BBO and had more than 600 viewers - sadly
the day of the onsite spectator seems to have passed.
The 2013 competition is underway, and results have been updated |

Commonwealth
Nations Bridge Championship
Following
on from successful tournaments in
Manchester,
Melbourne and New Delhi (where Scotland won the gold medal) the 4th
running of this prestigious event is to take place in the Radisson Blu
Hotel, Glasgow from 8th to 13th September 2014.
Planning is already well underway. Following the qualifying
rounds
for the main event, we will also be running an open trans-national
teams on 12th & 13th September for those who don't qualify for
the
semi-finals and supplemented by additional entries from top teams, from
home and abroad.
Furthermore, all participants in the two main events will be given
free entry to an open pairs tournament on Sunday 14th September to
which entries are encouraged from all SBU members. Don't miss
this
opportunity to play against top international players and put the date
in your diaries now!
A dedicated website
has been set up which contains a link to the event
leaflet - this has been issued to all Commonwealth national bridge
organisations, inviting them to enter a team. |
